More than 12 hours after members of the terror sect, Boko Haram, launched a ferocious attack on Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, military sources said fighting still raged on between the militants and federal troops. It is still hazy, however, to ascertain the level of casualties, but scores of the terrorists, residents and some soldiers were said to have been killed in the attack, which started around 8pm on Friday. A military source told our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday that heavy fighting continued throughout the night as the terrorists were well prepared for the battle but met a much more combat ready federal troops. It was learnt that Damaturu residents remained indoors even at daybreak as gunshots still boomed and explosions could be heard in some parts of the state capital. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports claimed that more than 200 Boko Haram members might have been killed as they attempted to invade Adamawa State, using the Askira-Uba, a border town between Borno and Adamawa states, as a launch pad. “They wanted to enter Adamawa through Askira-Uba, but ran into the waiting arms of the troops which killed about 200 of them,” the source, who craved anonymity, added.
