Morning out with Walaa, and Mohammed to see the Ibn Tolon. Mosque, - TopicsExpress

Morning out with Walaa, and Mohammed to see the Ibn Tolon. Mosque, one of the oldest unique mosques in old Cairo (around 1000 C.E.) which represents in its architect a combination between Islamic and Christian Coptic symbols. Then after a stop at a tea shop, we walked on to the Sultan Hassan mosque a beautiful mosque built four-hundred years later. There was a Sheikh teaching a class in the Mosque. He sat so comfortably with his visiting group and they were all laughing and having a great time. Later when the men started coming over to the larger space for prayer, I was surprised to see they all looked Chinese. Walaa explained to me that they were most likely from Indonesia. I was difficult to assimilate Chinese Muslims, but Indonesean Muslims made sense. I learned more about different places in the Mosque and how this prominent place was in the direction of Mecca. The Call to Prayer was exquisitely beautiful--not only because of the singers voice, but because of the buildings capacity for resonance. I could feel the immense spiritual power in this place. Quite nice!
