#MorningDevotion Procrastination Pain Progress Proverbs 10:4-5 Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches. The son who gathers during summer is prudent; the son who sleeps during harvest is disgraceful. If you are like me, there are many conditions that we will ignore until it begins to hurt and at times we will hang on and bear the pain for as long as we can until we can hold no more and the pain pushes us to action but at times its too late. Thats how I lost 3 of my teeth, I waited too long. We will let a leaking tap drip until we feel the pain of the huge water bill. We ignore our special diet until we feel the pain of a heart attack or high blood pressure. The pain prompts us to take action that we would otherwise put off. There are many people who lead healthier lifestyles today because the pain of a previous illness prompted them to take corrective action. We do things in response to pain and often we can be very innovative. When our old car breaks down for the last time, well either walk or get a better car. When the roof leaks so bad that we run out of pots, pans and cups to catch the water, well either bear it or repair it. Pain prompts us to take action. It was the blindness of the Damascus Road experience that prompted Saul to become Paul. Jonah stopped running from the Lord after he spent an extended weekend in the belly of the fish. Thus, one purpose of pain may be to prompt us to take action. Q: What are the things in your life TODAY that are begging for your attention but because there is no pain or the pain is mild and still bearable so you have put them off? Q: Will you do something about it today or will you wait for the pain to propel you to action? The choice is yours.
