Most of the people that live in America wont even see the Keystone - TopicsExpress

Most of the people that live in America wont even see the Keystone pipeline, or the messes it will eventually cause once it is built and put to use., So the comment ,Out of sight, out of Mind, would fit here. I do not live anywhere near it, and I am against it EVER being built, and here are my reasons why I feel that it should not be built. Sure pipelines are safe, until they break, just like hauling goods over rail lines until they crash. The point it THAT they do break, they do fail, and they are subject to being destroyed by any number of means. And when a pipeline fails, how many thousands of barrels will be spilled onto AMERICA before someone notices it and turns a valve? And since the oil from the TAR SANDS of CANADA are not intended for our use WHY SHOULD WE TAKE THE RISK, for what is in effect a few short term jobs. I will post these comments every time I see anything posted about approving in the keystone pipeline. Yes it is just my opinion, but please look past the immediate construction phase, and just maybe someone will start to understand that this is a terrible idea. Tell me just how is this great deal for this country? 1. Yes, the pipeline would create a lot of jobs during its construction phase. No problem there. But these are short term jobs. What will the workers do once the pipeline is completed? 2. Have you ever wondered why Canada does not want the pipeline to run from the source of the tar sands to Vancouver? It is about the same distance, but then they would be bearing the risk of pipeline failures due to natural disasters or sabotage. Think about it, they are more than willing to give away all those jobs during the construction phase. Unemployment is not just a problem here in this country. 3. Have you ever wondered why Canada does not want to refine the tar sands on their own soil? They do not want to deal with the pollution caused by such activities, and then again there is the risk of additional pollution due to natural disasters, sabotage, or just plain dumb accidents at the refinery. And again, they seem more than willing to give away all the jobs created to process the tar sands into a useable product. 4. Canada is so willing to let the United States bear all of the risks in transporting and refining the tar sands. So let us look at the route for the pipeline. As planned, it crosses several delicate aquifers. Just imagine the damage to these resources when the eventual pipeline failure occurs. And it will fail, if through nothing more than aging of materials, the tar sands oil is very corrosive, and again there are those pesky natural disasters, and yes, even possible sabotage. 5. So far I have not mentioned that the proposed route also crosses some land that is considered sacred to some of the Native American Nations. Oh but we are used to treading on their rights aren’t we. 6. And let us not forget the problems associated with the refining process. Canada is more than willing to let the United States bear all of those hazards as well. By now, you know the drill, additional pollution in the United States from the refining process, and there it is again,, that risk of pollution due to natural disasters, accidents, and sabotage. 7. And finally, most of this product if not all of it is intended for EXPORT! The United States will likely get NONE of it for our use. So why are we willing to trade a few short term jobs for the risk? Let Canada bear ALL the risks of handling this product. It is their mess, let them deal with it. Now, tell me again just how is this great deal for this country?
