Most of you probably realize I dont talk a lot here. I dont do a lot of drama. I do however want to thank J Andrew Lauer for opening up the topic of dm. I myself have had chessies for over 27 yrs.. When I got Nahara she was to be free and clear of genetic diseases and health guaranteed I went to my first Chessie akc dog show. Met Karen Marcotte and GiGi Grant there and a few others. At the show I was asked who her parents where. I said Windsong Cocoa was her dad. They both were very nice and caring. Rumor was he had dm. Heard that from a lot of peeps at the show. I asked the lady who owned Naharas mom. She told me no. This nutty lady Dee was suppose to have given her a copy of his health. So I thought the hell with this I need to know. I tested my girl at 8 months and she is a carrier. Her father is listed on Ofa as being a carrier. He got it from 5 gens back. I then contacted the lady who owned her mom. She offered to buy Nahara back. I said no way. Bottom line is she was lied to by this lady...yes she should have checked better. She should have done a lot of things. So you see. I have spoken to a lot of medical peeps about this disease and know everything I need to. Again I will perhaps breed her but will see if all her tests come back. I will list her on the OFA as a carrier. I will if she has pups test every one of them. I am not a kennel or breeder. But I have loved this breed for over 27 yrs when I got my first one. This is not to start a uproar. Or a debate. You have your opinion as does everyone else. My point here is if your dog is a carrier and you breed them without telling the other person. You are being Irresponsible and malicious. Please check your babies and make sure when you breed them you know what they have or dont have. Nahara is a stunning Chessie!
