Most pet owners will find this interesting but unsurprising. While there is some danger of committing anthropomorphism I believe pet owners have seen plenty of evidence of the existence of various emotions among higher mammals. It has been pretty well documented by now that many mammals can show love, respect, sympathy, grief and other emotions. So why shouldnt they have a sense of humor? The article hints at some degree of emotion among other non-mammalian species such as spiders. I have no view on that; however, I once heard a radio interview of a former roadie for the Rolling Stones who became a veterinarian. He reported that one of the more unusual patients he had was a tarantula. When he asked the owner what the problem was he was informed that the spider just wasnt himself. So who knows? After the end of the article there is a note that the next article in the series is about why all cultures have equivalent Polish jokes. Sounds interesting.
