Mostafa did bring this up to me when we issued the Hot Work Permit - TopicsExpress

Mostafa did bring this up to me when we issued the Hot Work Permit this morning and we had decided to put together a Document Change Note to reflect the Electric Arc welding Operations, however I did not think that there would be too much of a problem but it appears I was very wrong. Weather conditions Heavy squalls with Thunder and lightning around the ship, Wind Speeds 20-25kts Water on deck approx 1 - 2 inches. Roll and Pitch of vessel minimal Hot work in Engine Room using Electric Arc Welder Earthed to ships Superstructure/Hull Loss of power to Deck Sat System and ROV Unit On Investigation Breaker for Power to Main Deck TRIPPED Possible Spark or Short causing over Current on Line and tripping Breaker. This appears to be the only explanation and I would appreciate your input. I have written into my Standing Orders and procedures that NO ELECTRIC ARC Welding to take place whilst Squalls are in the vicinity, all Electric Arc welding to be suspended and hot Work Permit withdrawn if in operation.
