Movie Review for American Sniper by Jessie B. Byers Story: A. Sometimes its hard to bring a true story to life in a theater without adding a lot of fiction to it, but Clint Eastwood shows how it is done in this amazing story about Chris Kyle and how he went from a young Texas boy that just wanted to be a cowboy to the most decorated sniper in U.S. history. Its everything in between that makes this story mean so much in the end. Acting: A+. The whole cast really knocks it out of the park in this film. From Keir ODonnell (The little gay brother in Wedding Crashers) who plays Jeff Kyle, Chris Kyles little brother to Jake McDorman who plays as Biggles, on of Kyles best friends on his first 3 tours. I would love to tell you this is the best acting I have ever seen Bradley Cooper put on screen, but it will be hard for him to ever top Silver Linings Playbook as far as pure acting and range goes. Having said that, you find yourself forgetting that it is even Cooper youre watching because he literally transforms himself into Kyle for this part. From gaining 40 pounds to learning the accent, you can tell Eastwood picked the perfect person to play this part. Remember the name Sienna Miller, because she is going to be on a lot of directors short list for upcoming parts. To me she had the most difficult part of this film. Playing Taya, Kyles wife, and she really delivers a powerful performance that makes you wonder why you havent seen her more in other films. Directing: A. Eastwood has always put out great films. It is so hard to put out a true story without having some slow parts here and there. This movie flowed so well that it made the 2 hour and 15 minute running time seem more like 30 minutes of greatness leaving you wondering where the 2 hours went. I was afraid going to a 10:30 show it would leaving me yawning by the end, but this movie had me wide awake the whole time. Everything in this film felt so genuine. Eastwood brings you on the roller coaster of Kyles life like no one else could. There are parts that are intense enough to turn your knuckles white and parts that have you fighting back tears. Eastwood also throws in a few comical lines in there that left the theater laughing, but not too much to take away from the purpose of the movie. The action and parts of the film involving the war in Afghanistan and Iraq are done perfectly and remind you a little of Black Hawk Down in parts and The Hurt Locker in others. Overall: A+. By the end, the packed theater I was in did not move till the final credit rolled and that is the first time I have ever seen that. This is a must see at the theater and a must buy for me on Blu Ray. Comment below and tell me what you thought of the movie.
