"Mr. Karzai, according to those sources, accused the United States - TopicsExpress

"Mr. Karzai, according to those sources, accused the United States of trying to negotiate a separate peace with both the Taliban and its backers in Pakistan, leaving Afghanistan’s fragile government exposed to its enemies." In summary: After having funded the fanatics who became the Taliban during the Cold War, the US government under George W. Bush invades the country to get rid of the Taliban, at that point a widely hated regime, but though its brutality against the people of Afghanistan manages to transform them into a somewhat popular "resistance movement", so much so that the brutal warlords (such as Karzai) that the US has propped up (with dollars and guns) are unpopular enough that the US feels it has to negotiate with the Taliban to get a power-sharing deal (when supposedly US involvement was meant to dislodge the Taliban!) creating a divide between the US government and its warlord friends in Kabul. Also: Thousands of Americans and Afghanistanis are dead from all this.
