Museveni – 5.5% Economy growth despite aid cut President Museveni reacting to the 2013/14 budget at the Serena conference centre President has lashed at donor countries who suspended aid without proper consultations, from the government of Uganda. Denmark, UK and Ireland suspended development aid to Uganda following the Auditor General’s findings of alleged theft of money in the Office of the Prime Minister. Reacting to the budget 2013/14 at the Serena conference center President Museveni said that, those partners who cut aid because we had detected corruption were not correct. Fighting corruption does not need public relations. Despite aid cuts, the GDP by 5.1 percent, inflation was brought down to 3.6 percent from 40 percent. “We are now fighting bribery, nepotism and misused of office. The corruption in the ministries of public service, health and the office of the prime minister were detected by NRM sympathisers and police. The NRM knows what to do and how to do it” he said. We are still far behind. The tragedy is that Africa and Uganda, which are growing much faster, are not doing so, because of the disorientation of some of its leaders. Here in Uganda, the mistakes of the elements of leadership are well-known. Who delayed Bujagali power project? Surely, many people in the world know that the NRM is in the category of its own when it comes to fighting criminality and corruption. When I look around, some of the people here were old enough to have fought criminality, but they did not do so.
