My 2 cents worth now... I dont agree with all the nonsense going round... what a load of rubbish by uninformed people... but I dont agree with everything that goes down in the racing industry! I know lots of great people who are a part of it, but it saddens me to see what sometimes comes out the other end, the discards, unwanted horses. My wish is for the racing industry to make changes - I dont like horses being started so young, not being broken properly (Im sure they are at some stables, but definitely not all!) - and I believe the industry that breeds so many horses should be responsible and accountable for them after they are retired from racing. This industry at one end is rolling in a disgusting amount of money, and the other end, the jockeys, small time trainers and the poor horses that dont make it seem to suffer in all sorts of ways. This industry should be able to afford to have policies in place to ensure horses get broken properly, that Jockeys are looked after properly, should look at how young horses can be started, and make sure that every horse retired from racing goes somewhere with a future - why cant the rich end of the industry perhaps subsidise people who re-train racehorses? Ive had many ex racehorses, and I am not well off. I seem to be the one footing the bill to rehabilitate these horses who need a year for the rubbish to come out of their system and for their feet to recover, and only then do we see if we have something at the end of it... I just think the industry should be pro-active and be seen trying to make changes like this for the better of horses and jockeys. Just sayin!
