My Journey Into Macro Photography - TopicsExpress

My Journey Into Macro Photography ------------------------------------------------ I am not consider myself an excellent photographer because I just got my DSLR (Canon EOS 70D) on January 2014 with a tight budget, with plan just to photograph my hobby works like guitar making, woodcrafts, and other stuffs that I do. So I started to create my Facebook account on the same month. Without any formal training or knowledge in photography I begin digging, searching and watching mainly YouTube. On March 2014, I bought a second hand macro lens (EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro) cost me around $300US. Using DIY potato-can flash diffuser, I begin taking macro photos and starts to share the photo and join photography groups. April 2014, I add couple of good people to my friend list such as Tan Tc, Denis Hogan and others and begin asking questions. I start go out for macro outing with my best macro buddy, Tan Tc, which I met on FB. Then I bought a Nissin Di622 MK2 flash and begin building my own diffuser for my external flash and try to get my result as good as him using what Ive got. May 2014, Tan Tc was very generous donated me a broken flash (CY-20) which I glued it back and he also donated a set of old remote trigger to me. Later I bought from him another unit of CY-20 for RM50 (less than $20) than figure out how to make it works. Tan Tc also let me try some of his stuffs such as extension tube and Raynox DCR-250 to test it. June 2014, I bought a Raynox DCR-250 for about $80US and my macro photos start to improve a lot because I never missed a single day practicing taking macro photos until today. On every Sunday morning we both went to our favorite spot to shoot macro. July 2014, Tan Tc let me borrow his DCR-250, and also his 13mm + 31mm ET just to let me experiment together with my DCR-250 before I buy it so generous of him... makes me feels want to cry. Finally, because I gave my word to Denis to share my setup with you guys, here is my hardware setup and settings: -> Shutter Speed: 1/250s (always unless without flash) -> Aperture Size: between f/16 to f/22 -> ISO: between 100 to 200 -> Flash Exposure Compensation: between +1EV to +2EV As you can see Ive got nothing special here, if I can do it you guys can do it too, just be patience and keep on practicing. Please do not overwhelming with buying stuffs, you can begin macro with your kit lens just get yourself a Raynox DCR-250 macro conversion lens.
