My TBT this week has no picture. But the visual of that day will live with me forever. I was in 1st grade at Edwards Elementary School in Beaumont, Texas. It was after lunch, and the principal made a strange announcement, and we looked at each other not really knowing what he said. But then Miss Houck, our teacher, put her hands on her face and cried as in pain. One by one, we all started crying because of that. When school was out, my Mother picked me up, and she never did that as I lived one block from the school. She looked upset. I walked in the house, and Papa was in front of our black and white TV. He was never home after school, always at the church. He had been crying as well. It was the first time I ever saw him cry, and only saw him cry one time since. He sat with me and explained what had happened. It was only 5 years ago that I found out that my Papa was quite the civil rights leader in that time. And he was always a Republican, so Im sure he didnt vote for him. It really didnt have anything to do with either. It was truly an age of innocence lost. We havent really been the same sense. Peace. And Love to all on this anniversary tomorrow.
