My auntie has Alzheimers. Ive watched her transform from an attentive and nurturing wife, mother, sister and grandmother (and aunt) to someone who cant talk, cant walk and whose eyes say she knows the tragedy behind the last few chapters of her life. Still, to us, she is still all those things—a mom. A sister. A baba. She may not look or act the same. She may not be the woman we have known her to be for so many years. But her heart is still hers. And she is still beautiful. Alzheimers is such a crippling disease in so many ways. The best way to live each day is by remembering who the person will always be on the inside. And then loving that person indefinitely. Undoubtedly. Always.
