My father like many men born prior to and after World War 2 was a complex individual. No one knew my dad. But, in order to attempt to know my Dad, you must be willing to listen to his story through the words of people he helped throughout his life. My brother, Michael, and I went to the Krystal on 8th Avenue where my Dad had a makeshift office where he met with, broke bread with, and guided veterans through the process of gaining and using their earned rights and privileges as American veterans. The Krystal had staged a memorial to my Dad. The employees as well as the veterans with their warm welcomes and stories kept us entertained for a long time. If you see a veteran or know a veteran, attend to them, ask them how they are, and show them the respect they have earned!
