My first year at church camp I was 9 years old. They did not allow shorts at the camp nor could the boys and girls swim together. I will tell you a story about that later this week. I recall my mom gave me $2.50 to spend for snacks at the snack bar, it was hot July in the Ozarks of Missouri. So I had gone through my snack money by early Wednesday. Believe it or not I was shy, and would not tell anyone that I had spent my money. The a last 2 days were hot, sweaty and lots of water. I learned a bit about budgeting. When I got home my mom asked me if I had run out of money. I said yes. She said she had sent extra money with one of the counselors. However the counselor did not know I might need the money because I would not speak up and let anyone know. So I learned to speak up, when I did not understand or had a need. That has served me well.
