My full statment regarding assurence from the Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure that the re-development of Windsor Park will be completed by its 2015 deadline. McGimpsey welcomes assurances of the completion of the re-development of Windsor Park by 2015 Ulster Unionist Assembly Member for South Belfast Michael McGimpsey welcomes assurances from the Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure that the vital re-development of the Windsor Park stadium will meet its deadline for 2015. The re-development of the stadium will transform Windsor Park into an 18,000 seated capacity National Football Stadium. His comments follow a committee meeting with the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure this morning in which Mr. McGimpsey sought answers in regards to deadline date for the competition of the stadium upgrade. In a statement Mr. McGimpsey said, “I welcome the Ministers assurance that the re-development of the Winsdor Park stadium will not be further delayed and will indeed meet its deadline of completion by 2015.” “The creation of a National Football Stadium that is fit for 21st century purpose is an important piece of the development plans taking place in the Village area of South Belfast. It will undoubtedly provide a much needed and long overdue boost to the local community. The new upgraded stadium will be an economic driver within the Village and Donegall Road area, two of the most disadvantaged wards in Northern Ireland, producing more job opportunities for the area and leaving over £20 million from Belfast City Council to be invested into the adjacent Olympia Leisure Centre.” In conclusion, Mr. McGimpsey said, “The project, once finished, will not only be a tremendous benefit to football and sport in Northern Ireland, but will also contribute to the overall well-being of the community and further afield.”
