My gym session today taught me something. Normally, I would get on to the treadmill and for a football player, I would run like a mad man, show off my speed, but still fail to make even five kilos. Today I thought I would try something different since I was not feeling too well. I ran at average speed. It felt good. I never even felt tired and I could not believe my eyes when the kilos were going to over FIVE. It was the first time that I enjoyed running. I wished I could not get off it. I wanted more. The amount of time I spent on the treadmill, about eight people hopped on and off the treadmill machines flanking me, huffing and puffing like greyhouds that failed to stop a springing springbok. I smiled, they had no idea why. Then it hit me. This is what makes us fail. This is why most of us fail to reach our goals. We look at how quick someone next to us is going, how quick a friend bought a car, a house, got married and we get desperate, try to replicate their feats and subsequently, we run out of steam, everything becomes a disaster of gigantic proposition. Moral of the story is, always take your time, be patient, go at your own pace, enjoy what you like doing and dont mind how the next person does it. We are different, we are wired differently, but we can, and we all will succeed, if we go at the right speed. Life is not a competition. We all have different scripts and they will never go the same way. Give it a thought.
