My husband, Frank, and I had a wonderful Sunday. We travelled to Valley Forge, PA, for the dedication of the Pennsylvania Gold Star Families Memorial. As many of you know, our Gold Star Families are family members of military personnel who sacrificed their lives in service. The ceremony was very moving and reminded me that no military member ever serves alone. There are always moms, dads, brothers sisters, grandparents and others who cherish them. Many thanks to Corey Etchberger for inviting me (see the picture of the two of us in front of the memorial). His Dad, Air Force CMSgt. Richard Etchberger, was awarded the Medal of Honor, posthumously, for service during the Vietnam War. Kudos go to Marine CWO4 Woody Williams, Medal of Honor winner from Iwo Jima (pictured in red with me) who dreamed of erecting Gold Star Family memorials across America--and now that dream is happening. Also, I am sending a shout out to two special airmen who made the day special for all the families in attendance--Staff Sergeant Darius Johnson (a member of the color guard) and Staff Sergeant Samantha Johnson who sang our national anthem (pictured with me). Great job guys!!! Please remember the families of the fallen always. They deserve special recognition.
