My husband (Jerry Butt) has copies of the following: The construction of the Provo Canyon road was the initial step in settling the Utah Valley (Heber). Originally the Provo Canyon road was designed to link Central and Southern communities for a more direct route to the United States. On January 19, 1855 the Provo Canyon road was incorporated by the Governor and the Legislative Assembly. The Act read (in part) as follows: That Aaron Johnson, Thomas S. Williams, Evan M. Green and William Wall with their associates, are hereby constituted with the exclusive right of making a road from the mouth of Provo Canyon, in Utah County, to the Kamas Prarie and thence to continue northeasterly on the most feasible route until the road intercepts the main traveled road to the United States. The road was completed October 18, 1858 with a budget of $19,000. On 12 November, William Wall noted that about 100 teamsters had started for the States via the Provo Canyon road. The route meant a savings of some sixty miles for teamsters freighting from Camp Floyd to the States. But most important of all, it made possible the settlement of Wasatch County. (William Wall was his 2nd great grandfather)
