My inspirational read for this morning: God Is Still Seated On His Throne Sometimes life gets so tough you and I need a fresh view of our sovereign God. I know how it goes. So many times in life, we find ourselves living on stale bread when what we really need is a fresh view… a revival view… of God. We see evidence of this kind of revival in the life of the Old Testament prophet named Isaiah. Here’s what Isaiah 6:1 says, In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Now, you have to understand that King Uzziah’s death caused great despair among the people of Israel. You see, he was the king who had brought them a long way… and the nation had made some great progress under his leadership. So when he died, so, too, did the dreams of his people. Hopes were dashed, security was shaken, and stability was eroded because of his death. In other words, it was a bad year! And maybe today, as we come to the mid-way point of 2014, you’d have to admit that it’s been a bad year for you. Perhaps some of your dreams have died. Maybe some of your desires have been put on hold. And today, you’d just have to say, “It’s not been a good year!” But here’s the good news that Isaiah learned in the midst of a very bad year: Even when things aren’t working out on earth, heaven is still in charge. Even when the king has died, God is still seated on His throne. One of the preeminent doctrines that you and I can never lose sight of if we want to understand and experience God anew is His sovereignty. The sovereignty of God means that nothing gets to you before it comes through His fingers first. God is in charge. The sovereignty of God means that He is ultimately calling the shots. That’s why the stuff on earth can never be allowed to have the last word in your situation. No matter how bleak things may look… how bad things may look… or how dead things may look… they can never have the last word. Why? Because while a king may die, the King is fine!
