My little classic Honda CRX has been poorly recently, unable to - TopicsExpress

My little classic Honda CRX has been poorly recently, unable to even crank her engine to get started. As an automatic I could not bump start her either. I did all the checks, consulted Honda Forums and mechanics and was resigned to a £400 bill for a new starter motor, some major under bonnet surgery if the engine was seized and delays obtaining replacement parts, when I had a nagging feeling that it must be something much simpler. So I took some photos under the bonnet and noticed on one that the positive battery feed to the starter looked ever so slightly corroded. Not much, and I was not convinced it would have any effect, but I removed the cable anyway and its retaining nut and did a quick sanding with some emery paper to polish up the copper contacts. a 5 minute job first thing this morning. Re-attached everything and with no expectancy she fired up first time!. I just could not believe it!!. So I tried it again and again and again and sure enough my Honda reliability was restored.... yeh!!...So for a 5 minute job plus sandpaper and a little bit of inspiration I just saved myself £400 and an awful lot of hassle and can now go enjoy roof down motoring again for the summer. I guess the moral of the story is when a car is over 20 years old corrosion is bound to have some effects, and in this case it was a tiny amount of oxidation at an electrical connection that made all the difference. So much for mechanics and so called Honda specialists...I will continue to tinker with her instead!...:-)
