My response to a recent facebook post going around: ****************************************************** The Worst Protein Shake Offenders which one do you use/promote? If you’re buying protein shakes at the grocery store or from your neighbor through their MLM business, chances are they will contain some or all of these harmful ingredients. The following is a list of the worst offenders. Shakeology – Refined sugar, whey protein isolate, rBGH ****************************************************** Refined Sugar: Shakeology does not contain Aspartame (an artificial sweetener), or any other artificial sweeteners, flavors, or colors. Aspartame should not be confused with aspartic acid. The ester form of aspartic acid is called aspartate, not to be confused with the artificial sweetener aspartame. Shakeology contains aspartic acid and phenylalanine, which are common amino acids naturally found in proteins, such as the whey or rice protein used in our formulas. The chemical process of combining the two to create aspartame requires special chemical catalysts and high temperature and this process does not occur in our bodies just because we happen to consume the components. Whey Protein isolate: Chocolate, Greenberry, and Vanilla Formulas: The whey protein isolate that is used in Shakeology is the highest commercial grade available. At this time, we do not require that it be organic. Our whey protein isolate is ion-filtered, antiobiotic-free and BST free. It is not from grass-fed cows. Vegan Chocolate and Tropical Strawberry: In our vegan formulas, the protein blend contains brown rice protein, pea protein, along with chia, amaranth, quinoa, and flax. Together, they are a complete protein containing all 9 essential amino acids including sufficient levels of lysine and methionine, which are often deficient in vegan diets. rBGH: The whey protein isolate that is used in Shakeology is the highest commercial grade available, and to the best of our knowledge does not contain or come from a dairy or whey protein treated with rBGH.
