My response to someones comment on my comment to a letter to the editor of Baynet: (sometimes the People have no clue and perhaps should remain glued to whatever reality show happens to be on the tube.) I think this criticism of his comment is without merit and offers nothing beneficial to the political process of electing our leaders. If this is the worst anyone can come up with in regards to Mr. Schallers credibility to serve the people of St. Marys, I think that makes an incredibly huge statement in favor of his being elected. What I am hearing is that we should not vote for any candidate in 2014 because the fact is every party can be blamed for something. Our political environment is in sad shape. Let us stick to facts as I have already offered some regarding Mr. Schaller. I hear much criticism of the candidates, but truth be told, I place more blame on the citizens for not being active; not being informed on the issues and the actions of our elected officials. How can one say I am a proud citizen, Marylander, American, etc. if we have such a low turnout of voters; such a low number of people showing up to hearings and forums; such a low number of citizens testifying before our legislature in Annapolis? One would suggest we can still be a proud American, right? It is easy to criticize based on party affiliation or personal association, but far more beneficial when we stick to the facts. Mr. Schaller is a man of integrity and principle. In DuPage County, IL, a Republican introduced and helped pass the rain tax last summer...should we still vote for him just because he is not a Democrat? Candidates and elected officials get criticized for playing party politics and yet we, the people, are far more guilty of playing party politics. Principles over party? Absolutely. So lets base our choice on individuals and not party affiliation or simple statements such as Im a proud... So many want to be vocal during election years, and yet only a handful are willing to step up, put their name and character out there and run for office. It looks awfully comfortable from the sofa; no disrespect intended.
