My version of this story goes like this: Dick Evanow was running - TopicsExpress

My version of this story goes like this: Dick Evanow was running the Cheryl M during crab season. Karl his son, my roommate at the time, runs out of fuel on the Norwester. I am working on the Maranantha for Dale Miller. Dale tells me and Randy Depee that Karl is on the radio, and when some one says they will come help Karl his dad comes back and says he will tow him in. This is pretty early in the morning. A bit later Karl calls his dad asking where he is, and Dick says he is going to run his gear before towing them in. This got all of us laughing and smiling on the Maranantha, and probably on all the boats in the fleet. We had a lot of gear down south so we got to round rock just after 10:00 that night. Dick had had a tough time finding the Cheryl M because they had played the stereo until it drained the batteries, so the VHF wasnt working. The seas had built pretty good. Cheryl M was just getting the Norwester there too, so we got behind em. Dale had Randy and I put on our survival suites before we went onto the deck with the life ring. We peeked around the cabin and watched the two boats ahead of us in our crab lights. We could see them when we were up on the crest of the waves. The Norwester leaned over pretty good, but Dick knew what he was about. If the line had parted it would have been all she wrote. They made it Ok! Karl tells the story a little different, but I am almost certain he hasnt ran a boat out of fuel since. But, he still rocks the music. A deck hand could sleep pretty easy in his bunk with either of them on the wheel.
