NATIONAL PECAN TORTE DAY Each year on August 22, pecan lovers across the country celebrate National Pecan Torte Day. A torte is a rich, usually multi-layered, dessert that can be filled with whipped cream, buttercream, mousse, jam, fruits or nuts. Most often, the cooled torte is glazed and garnished. Tortes are normally made with little to no flour, instead using ground nuts or breadcrumbs, along with sugar, eggs and flavorings. The pecan tree is the only nut-tree native to North America.
