NEW INDEPENDENCE POLL PUTS YES @ 52% A YouGov survey, conducted by the Scottish Sun newspaper, foud that a majority would prefer to break away from the United Kingdom, with 48 per cent opting for a No vote when don’t knows and abstentions were excluded. Another poll carried out on voting intentions in the General Election next year showed the SNP with a 47 per cent majority. Labour, who today announced Jim Murphy as its Scottish party leader, trailed at 27 per cent, but were ahead of the Conservatives (16 per cent) and the Lib Dems (3 per cent). The figures leave Labour facing the prospect of losing just over three quarters of their Scottish seats to the SNP. Fifty-one per cent of respondents also said that the Smith Commission proposals did not go far enough, while 14 per cent thought too much had been devolved. Twenty-three per cent said the balance had been just right. YouGov chairman Peter Kellner said: “This looks like something bigger and longer lasting than a post referendum blip.”
