NEW TWO-STOREY SCHOOL BUILDING TO RISE IN CARAEL By Patrick Cendreda BUILDING THE FUTURE IN CARAEL – Mayor Belen T. Fernandez, along with officials from the Department of Education, Carael Elementary School, barangay council, and Parent-Teachers Association, lead the lowering of a time capsule which symbolically initiated the construction of a new two-storey, eight-classroom building in the said barangay. Present in the groundbreaking ceremony were Councilor Karlos Reyna, City Engineer Virginia Rosario, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lourdes Servito, Education Program Supervisors Liezl Cancino and Venus Estonillo, and Carael Elementary School Principal Ofelia Vergonia. (CIO photo by Jojo Tamayo) DAGUPAN CITY – A modern two-storey, eight classroom school building will soon rise at the Carael Elementary School in this city after the local government broke ground on the project last November 6. Mayor Belen T. Fernandez led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the P8.9 million two-storey school building which marked the LGUs endeavor in improving infrastructure within schools in the city. The building has a total area of 912 square meters and will contain eight classrooms for some 400 students from grades 3, 4, and 5. Construction will begin immediately and is expected to be completed in six months. Dr. Lourdes Servito, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent, cited recognized the local governments significant contributions and efforts in supporting the cause of the schools here in promoting quality and access to basic education. Ofelia Vergonia, Carael Elementary School principal, expressed her gratitude to the local government for providing the students with a modern facility, which will serve as a landmark project not just for the school, but for the whole community as well. She added that the students will be inspired to learn in a conducive learning environment. “It is wonderful that the local government, lead by Mayor Belen Fernandez, is continuing to enhance educational facilities around the city. And here in Carael, we are very lucky that the mayor has given us a new school building which will greatly benefit our students,” said Vergonia. Mayor Fernandez said that it has always been a priority of her administration to provide quality educational facilities in the city. “We believe that better facilities lead to better learning. With the new school building, we hope that our students would be encouraged to learn and further develop their skills under its roof,” said Fernandez. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by officials from the Department of Education, barangay council, and the local Parent-Teachers Association.
