NEWS UPDATE AT 9AM WITH ORANGE The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has expressed dismay over the reintroduction of multi-party politics in the country which she says has left many members of parliament incapable of debating freely without permission of their Chief Whips for fear of being held in contempt of party rules. Kadaga says the move has greatly suppressed the freedom of speech in Parliament. However, politicians have disputed this alleging that the current rules of Parliament give privileges and immunity to the legislators to debate their views. Saudi Arabian government has extended the May 31 Haj registration deadline to the 18th of June in order to enable more Ugandans fulfill the fifth pillar of Islam that calls upon all the physically fit and financially able Muslims to perform the Haj at least once in their lifetime. The secretary general of the Uganda bureau of Haj affairs sheikh Zakariya Kyewalyanga says the decision to extend the deadline came as a result of the delayed installation of the machines to be used to send names of the potential pilgrims. This years Haj season will start on the 17th of September and end on the 4th of October. Ugandans may not reap big from oil as government plans to invest the proceeds from oil production into top rated investments abroad. The much anticipated full-scale production expected to yield billions will kick-off in two years’ time. The minister of finance Maria Kiwanuka says the money will be invested in triple A rated securities to avoid surges of cash. However, Uganda will still remain an agriculture-first economy. There is outrage over police inaction in a village in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh where two teenage girls were gang raped and hanged from a tree as s father of one victim said he was ridiculed by policemen when he sought help in finding his missing daughter. At least three men, including one policeman, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Public health experts in the US are urging people to get vaccinated after a spike in measles cases in the country this year.The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention reported 288 cases of measles in the first five months of 2014 - the largest number for 20 years.
