NEWS UPDATES AT 10AM WITH Orange This year’s national celebrations to mark the International youth day will be held in Moroto. The event will be presided over by President Yoweri Museveni under the theme“unlocking young people’s potential for sustainable development through collective investment”. The minister for youth and children Ronald Kibuule says the event will be marked on 12th of august 2014 at Boma grounds. He says the day will also be used to recognize potential in the youth and how to plan for better ways of engaging young people to successful development. In a related development Government is coming up with guidelines which are to be followed by investors who wish to make investments in the country In a bid to create jobs for the fast growing unemployed population. The state minister for youth Ronald kibule says that the guide lines will require investors to employ a certain percentage of the locals. Kibuule stated that many foreigners have come to the country in the guise of being investors but they end up doing work that should have been done by the locals. The Assistant Commissioner Support Services, ministry of health, Alison Kantarana has been summoned by the parliamentary committee on health to explain the illegal water connections at Mulago hospital. It is alleged that Kantarana permitted connection of surrounding houses to the hospital meter causing huge bills. DR Kenneth Omona the chairperson of the committee says Kantarana authorized the illegal connections during the time she was Principal Hospital administrator. The committee has now directed the ministry of health together with the entire hospital administration to appear with Alison Kantarana on Tuesday next week or else risk not to pass the hospital budget. A 55 year old man has been killed by his two brothers over a land dispute in the northern northern district of Lira. Alfred Odongo was strangled by his brothers Benson Gira and Robert Odongo at his home in Leladam village. The brothers have been engaged in a bitter dispute over the ownership of a half acre piece of land that belongs to the family. The two men are being held at Lira Central Police Station and deny killing their brother. Women in Abim district have accused police for shielding defilement. According to Christine Apio One of the women leaders in the area, some of police officers extorting money from the accused persons and in the process, this has built confidence in the perpetuators to continue abetting crime. She has said, women now are in fear to walk alone in the area as well as girls rarely attend schools due to fear of meting perpetuators along the way. AND IN INTERNATIONAL NEWS Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has declared the outbreak of Ebola a national emergency and approved more than $11m to help contain it. The move comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) said the spread of the virus in West Africa was an international health emergency. W.H.O says 961 people have died from Ebola in West Africa this year, two of them in Nigeria.The total number of cases stands at 1,779, the UN health agency said.
