NGC 772 - a spiral galaxy in the constellation of Aries NGC 772 was discovered on 29 November 1785 by the English astronomer William Herschel . This is the 10th volume of a spiral galaxy of type SA (s ) b in the constellation Aries. In the catalog Dreyer has been described as an object bright , very large, round, shining gradually toward the center , giving separate. Based on the speed of the recession , which is 2472 km / s, estimated the distance of the galaxy from the Solar System , it amounts to about 115 million light years. This distance is also confirmed by the distance that separates NGC 770 from the solar system. Both NGC 772 and NGC 770 is likely to form a pair of mutually interacting galaxies. Taking into account the angular dimensions of NGC 772, which amount to 7.2 to 4.3 arcmin , the diameter of the galaxy is estimated to be about 240 thousand light years. NGC 772 observed using the 45 -cm reflector appears to us as an object : bright , very large, elongated in a ratio of 4:3 in the axis WNW-ESE . It has unbalanced the galactic halo , wider from the north west and very strongly marked elongated arm , mounted on the north side of the galaxy and extending August on the northern side of the galaxy. Creates a pair as mentioned above with a much weaker elliptical galaxy NGC 770 distant about 3.5 minutes to the south to south-west.
