NOAA says that "Flossie" is moving North of the Big Island, - TopicsExpress

NOAA says that "Flossie" is moving North of the Big Island, however the water vapor and infrared satellite images show the action moving South. Perhaps the Big Island peaks have shredded Flossie into real and imaginary tracks? Behind Flossie, high pressure far northeast of the area will reestablish trade winds across the islands. Model cross sections show mid-level moisture lingering into Wednesday. Forecast soundings from the GFS show a weak inversion beginning to develop from the east on Tuesday, but not really strengthen to more normal values until Wednesday. Therefore we will hold onto higher rainfall chances into Wednesday, before transitioning back to a more typical trade wind weather pattern. Seas at the Hilo bay cdip buoy climbed rapidly this morning ahead of tropical storm Flossie, peaking at 14 feet at 8 am HST. Small to moderate south and southeast swells will continue through Tuesday. A larger, long period south swell is expected to arrive late Tuesday, and peak on Wednesday near advisory levels for south facing shores. Tuesday: Frequent showers and slight chance of thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs around 80 at the shore to around 70 at 4000 feet. Northeast winds up to 10 mph. Gusts up to 30 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent. Wednesday: Frequent showers in the morning...then numerous showers in the afternoon. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs 67 to 84. Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent. Thursday: Partly sunny with scattered showers in the morning... Then mostly sunny with isolated showers in the afternoon. Highs 67 to 84. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph until mid morning. Chance of rain 50 percent.
