NORTHUMBRIA IN BLOOM 2013 The Town Council entered Ponteland into the Small Town category for Northumbria in Bloom 2013. The Chairman of the Council’s In Bloom Group, Councillor Mrs Joyce Butcher and the Clerk to the Council attended the awards event at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland on Tuesday 17 September and were delighted to receive a GOLD award in the category for the second year running. This was presented by John Grundy, local author and TV personality. The Town Council have received a large number of positive comments about the many floral displays and flower beds this year. This feedback is much appreciated. Various premises/organisations were entered into the Special Awards categories and there was also great success for Ponteland as follows: Ponteland Bowling and Tennis Club – GOLD Athol House – GOLD Prestwick Allotments – GOLD The Diamond Inn – SILVER GILT Congratulations to all those involved in the above. Photographs of the presentations will follow. The Council would like to thank all of those who have contributed towards the excellent displays this year including their contractors, Iain Clough, Michael Champion and Jim Scott. We would also like to thank the various volunteers who helped us with various aspects of the competition including Alan and Liz Mee, David and Carole Butler and the Friends of Ponteland Park who so impressed the judges with the dipping platform and the wild meadow in the Park.
