NOTICE There have been comments made by a certain photographer to various members of our industry about their involvement with MaiLife STYLE. The claims being made are as follows: 1. An offer was made for them to submit work to be included in a spread for MaiLife STYLE’s Autumn/Winter edition (Out late March 2015) 2. That they rejected the offer because they did not like the content of the first publication (Spring/Summer 14/15 edition which was on sale at the end of September 2014) 3. They have also raised issue about the level of nudity in the first issue of MaiLife STYLE and used it as a reason for their non-involvement suggesting that should the publication “change” they would “consider” submitting work for publication I, as Editor, respond with the following on behalf of MaiLife STYLE and our Publisher, Cover Story Ltd: 1. MaiLife STYLE is a platform for development. Any offers that we made for publication were contingent on the submission of an acceptable storyboard and concept plan to be assessed and accepted by the Creative Director and I. 2. The involved photographer was given an opportunity to present a proposal, but in their arrogance did not adhere to the timeline given for submission. I note that they did in fact communicate with our office after the due date to arrange a meeting time, which I then rejected due to their lack of respect for the deadline. 3. The offer for consideration was not turned down by the photographer but instead was met by enthusiasm and an agreement to meet at a later date. 4. The content of MaiLife STYLE is targeted towards mature and intellectual Fijians with a keen eye for high fashion. The publication is not a catalogue. Our publications are designed to start a conversation with our highly intelligent readership. Perhaps the photographer involved in the rumours is, simply put, not our market. 5. Our publications aims will not change. We are not interested in censorship or the status quo. Frankly, my team and I are not interested in the work of photographers who are not willing to truly push boundaries and make bold statements through their craft. 6. We feel that it may be necessary for the photographer involved to expand their fashion vocabulary and understanding of what the acceptable standard of creative work is required for publication anywhere in the world. Our publication has only worked with the following photographers – Ilai Jikoiono (our Creative Director and Fiji’s preeminent Fashion Photographer), Feroz Khalil, Simon Saul Shankaran and Sadnhya Nand (Dusk Devi Gold). We are always looking at developing new talent, or discussing the involvement of other respectable photographers. I would like to remind the photographer that arrogance, jealousy and false stories will bear no fruit, and will certainly never get him onto the pages of MaiLife STYLE – the world’s first high end fashion and lifestyle publication from the Pacific.
