The Helena Daily Independant-Monday Morning-February 21,1927 Half-Brother Seeks Share in immense Gagnon Estate Butte Feb 20. A battle for a supposed millions in the Gilbert Gagnon Estate, whose immense holding of $22,000,000,lie in two counties has been carried to Butte with the arrival of Louis Gagnon, half brother of the famous multi-millionnaire,who he says discovered de rich mine here wich bears is name.Gilbert Gagnon also developped the famous la Sultana Bonanza Gold Mine in Mexico, one of the world greatest producer. Weird, almost too fabulous for belief is the story told by the 74 years old Louis Gagnon, one of seven persons, attempting to share in the big estate.Five of the six brothers attempting to obtain division of the property are helf-brothers Gagnon. Gilbert Gagnon the son of a French Canadian farmer living in Canada, was born in 1833,according to the story told by his half-brother,member of a family of 17 children. Gagnon moved to MINNESSOTA,letter comming to Montana to settled at Butte and discover the famous GAGNON MINE.About 48 years ago he disposed of his holdings here and went to Mexico to develop the La Sultana Mine in the State of Sonora. It was while he was in Mexico that he sent for Joseph L.Giroux once at Butte Mining Man and now a capitalist. Both Gagnon and his partner became wealthy. On his way back to Mexico stopped in Oakland, where he inserted news paper advertisements which announced he had $14,000,000 for his heirs, they say.He advertised again at Los Angeles and receiving no word continued his way to Mexico to la Sultana. About two years later he mysteriousely disappeared. Some of his relatives believed he was murdered, but all are certain he is dead.A search on Mexicain record has failed to reveal any data on his dead and his heirs have been unable to find any trace of a will. Shortly after Gagnon`s supposes death Giroux sold the mine for ten millions and went to Los Angeles wher he has made his home. Gilbert Gagnon? Why I never knew of any one by that name.Louis Gagnon quotes Giroux as sayling recently.A suit for $22,000,000 has been filed by the Gagnon Heirs in Los Angeles against Giroux, the amount they claim due them from the sale and profits ofthe mine. Gagnon is seeking information here and will be in Butte another week ,he says.He is stopping at the Arizona Hotel.
