Narrated by Abu Jahaifah (RATU): I saw Allah’s Apostle (SAW) in a red leather tent and I saw Bilal (RATU) taking water with which the Prophet (SAW) performed ablution. I saw the people taking the utilized water impatiently and whoever get some of it rubbed it on his body; those who could not get any, took from the moist hands of others. Then I have seen Bilal (RATU) carrying an Anza (a spear headed stick) which he planted in the ground. The Prophet (SAW) came out tucking up his red colored cloak, and led the people in prayer and prayed two Rakat facing Ka’bah, taking Anza’ as S’utra for his prayer. I saw people and animals passing in front of him beyond the Anza. [Sahih Bukhari, vol. 8, The Book of Sal’at, Hadith No. 373]. Narrated by Abu Haz^im (RATU): Sahl bin Sa’ad was asked about the Prophet Salallahu alihi wasllim’s pulpit as to what thing it was made of? Sahl replied. “None remains alive amongst the people who know about it better than me. It was made of Tamarsk wood of the forest. So and so the slave of so and so prepared it for Allah’ Apostle (SAW). When it was constructed, It was placed in the Mosque. Allah’s Apostle stood on it facing Qiblah and said Allahu Akbar (Takbir); and people stood behind him and led the people in prayer. He recited and bowed and the people bowed behind him. Then he raised his head, and stepped back, got down and prostrated on the ground; and then he again ascended the pulpit, recited, bowed, raised his head and stepped back, got down and prostrated gn the ground. So, this is what I know about the pulpit. Ahmad bin Hambal said, “As the Propnet was at a higher level than people, there is no harm, but the prostration should be on ground. Ahmad bin Hambal said, “As the Prophet (SAW) was at higher level than the people there is no harm according to the mentioned Hadith. If the Imam is at higher level than his followers during the prayers.” [Sahih Bukhari, The Book Of Sal’at, vol 8, Hadith No. 374].
