Nationals Comedown (verb) A mild yet distressing period of melancholy experienced immediately after the cessation of a National Championships. Felt by sailors, volunteers and officials alike, the period of grief is often cured with a new goal- such as another event, schoolwork, multiple trips to the fridge/cupboard, grown up work (yes, getting old sucks) and potentially long winded Skype phone calls. One may be coming down for a period of up to 2 weeks. However, if symptoms persist after 3 weeks, you probably need to see a doctor or add a glass of concrete* to your daily fare. Example A - Person 1: Hey man, how was nationals? Person 2 : Dude, amazing. I sailed well, met a hot chick and got to see Sydney... Example B - Mum : Clean your room! Child : Ill do it later, Im still tired/jet lagged from Nationals/talking on Facebook all night Example C - Sailor : OMG, at Nationals we... Non sailing friends : ... [ha! Lets be honest, who even has those?] If someone you know is suffering, perhaps show them the link to the event photos, taken by the talented Melissa Williams-Brown Photography ! Im sure youll agree that Mel captured some awesome moments at the presentation... If that doesnt float your boat- you could even look at the love hexagon Ive attached to this post. Found lying around the club, it demonstrates not only a tangled web of love and lust, but also highlights how bored some of you got during postponement! (Im assured there werent any siblings or cousins from Tasmania at the event, so I guess this rules out my last opportunity for a Tasmanian joke...) On a more serious note, however, I just wanted to say a huge thanks to you all for coming. It was awesome to have so many young sailors around the club - you were all so well behaved, both on the water and off. Although it sounds dorky, that makes us all very proud. Your parents and schools should be, too! From all at WSC we hope you enjoyed yourselves, arrived back home safely and we cant wait to see you at an event sometime soon! For the last time - (I promise) WSC Ps. To those who know the art of souvenier-ing… Remember one of the key rules - always ensure the OA doesnt discover whats been taken home! Nice try, grasshoppers. *Please dont take the glass of concrete literally- it will cause a painful death.
