Neighbors this was posted by a friend of mine on FB regarding recent burglaries in OTO > re: the Alert system and what was going on in our neighborhood). OPD said this to a neighbor in a nutshell: The police said that this ring of burglars is targeting Chapman students. They are looking for computer, electronic equipment, bikes and tools. Stuff they can easily sell. The guy that lives in the apartment on our corner had unique photography equipment. After it was stolen, he went on Craigslist and sure enough. Someone was trying to sell it. He contacted police and they busted the guy. Apparently, he had a storage unit filled with stolen items. But obviously, hes not the only one. There is a ring of burglars so we need to be vigilant. The police said that b/c of prison overcrowding, criminals (like this guy) get arrested, low bail, and theyre right back out on the street, stealing again. Oh, another thing he said, is they use bolt cutters. So even if you lock your garage with the usual kind of lock, theyll cut it. So get a heavy duty lock. Or get a dog.
