Nepenthes hemleyana This unique plant shares a mutualistic relationship with the Hardwickes Woolly Bat (Kerivoula hardwickii). It provides shelter for the bat and in return the bats excrement provides a nitrogen rich source of nutrient. This pitcher plant has several adaptations to better accommodate its woolly friend. Its has a lower fluid level and a longer, narrower pitcher structure to ensure a snug fit. The plant also relies less on nectar and odour to attract insect prey as compared to its sister species, Nepenthes rafflesiana.
