New Name for South Sudan, I hear people talking? Look no further - TopicsExpress

New Name for South Sudan, I hear people talking? Look no further than your nose. We already have it but avoid formalizing it. It is a name historically older than the coined two words called South Sudan. It is one word, easy to pronounce and remember. Kush (Cush)? No, that name is a lie, a travesty, and an empty claim which holds no water when closely examined. “Kushite”! Nooo! I am no Kushite, Our real name as a country has got into some of our folklore ya Junubiin – hoops! I have spilled the beans! Anyway, Jubiin, ask a Dinka or Nuer herdsman, a Latuka, Acholi, Ndogo or Zande farmer: They will tell you what Junub means, who a Junubi is or Junubiin are. So, what is the problem? Because it originates from the so-called “Arabs” immediately north of us? Well, get over it. We are free. And the name ‘Junub’ is part of our heritage as a nation. It is part of our history. If we have to change from South Sudan, which is a mouthful anyway, it should be something easy, familiar and true: “Junub” it is for the country,” Junbi” for a citizen and “Junubiin” for citizens of Junub. Ya Junubiin, look no further. It can catch like wildfire!
