New legislation makes it easy for feds to ignore public + - TopicsExpress

New legislation makes it easy for feds to ignore public + Aboriginal input on resource development at bequest of BC Govt. Last week the Minister of the Environment, Leona Aglukkaq bent to the desire of B.C. to go it alone on the environmental assessment of another major resource development project -- in this case, the proposed Ruddock Creek Lead and Zinc Mine. (the preil here is that in all its decades supposedly managing + providing oversight on the application approval processes for natural resources mega-projects in BC, the BC Environments Environment Assessment Office EAO has always approved every single mining project put in front of it including the Taskeo Mines proposal for New Prosperity mine near Fish Lake, Chilcotin that was soundly rejected by the Feds EAA. In BC political + economic priorities always taint those of social + environmental concerns so BC EAO is being manipulated by BC Environment ADMs, DMs + the current Min herself, Mary Polak. This is a dangerous precedence letting BC EAO go alone on this mine project proposal + future ones because with BC Libs Govt their perceived economics + jobs mantra, a failed one, trumps all else in consideration. And as you will see from this article this BC govt has made other requests to Feds to go it alone on BC EAO assessments of coal mines + LNG projects. It also flies in the face of recent SCOC - Tsilhquotn decision) rabble.ca/print/blogs/bloggers/miningwatch/2014/07/new-legislation-makes-it-easy-feds-to-ignore-public-and-aborigina
