News from our Companion Synod: Currently, the Central African Republic is in the midst of a civil war that arose after the coup in March. This article gives a glimpse into the struggles that the people of the Central African Republic, especially the children, are facing and will face because of the strife. “For children, the biggest casualties of war are not caused by bullets. Children are far more likely to die from malnutrition, exposure to infectious disease or lack of access to health care.” The Central African Republic was one of the countries that the ELCA Malaria Campaign was active in. However, due to the conflict, our companion churches in the Central African Republic do not have the infrastructure to carry out malaria programming. So the resources and funds that the ELCA Malaria Campaign designated for them have been put on hold until stability returns. At this point, the ELCA is walking with them and doing all that we can to accompany them during this difficult time.
