Next week marks 40 years since the Whitlam Labor Government - TopicsExpress

Next week marks 40 years since the Whitlam Labor Government introduced universal healthcare to Australia. Unfortunately, the Fraser Liberal Government were able to tear down this reform and it took another Labor Government to ensure every Australia had the right to decent healthcare. Now, 40 years on Tony Abbott and his colleagues are trying to tear it all down again. Labor won’t stand for that and its up to all of us to stop him. Thats why next Thursday, Tanya Plibersek MP and the Labour Party are hiring buses to take people from across the state to Canberra. Once there, we’ll march on Old Parliament House and dominate the pictures on that evening’s news with our simple message: “Hands off our Medicare. We need to remind every member in the House and Senate how cherished Medicare is, when it comes time to vote on its future. Its $35 for a return bus ticket down to Canberra. Can you join with others concerned about Medicare down in Canberra or, if you can’t, help chip in for the costs of the day? We have to show Australia how much we care about Medicare. Labor knows the value and importance of Medicare. We believe that universal healthcare is a universal right.
