Night fire... No knife, no tools, nothing but a ferro rod, a golfball size bundle of unprocessed Yellow Poplar inner bark and the knowledge of my region. I knew where the twigs and sticks were. I even knew where to step over my black bankline guylines. Had little if any moonlight. I was probably at 80% vision, but I went by hand & by feel because I know my fire pit and my camp site like I know myself. I processed my tinder ball, laid it in the pit, had my twigs ready that I harvested just before lighting the tinder and started a fire. Once I was sure it was on like Donkey Kong in Vietnam with Cheech & Chong, I began to add the larger Sugar Maple sticks that I had already split. When I had 1 sticks burning, I put it out. All in all, soup to nuts, 20 minutes from walking out to my pit to putting it out with water.
