No action will be taken against a police dog handler after a 10-year-old boy was attacked by a police dog in his grandmothers back garden. Tom Cutbill was bitten when the officer entered the private garden in Oldbury while looking for metal thieves. But a West Midlands Police inquiry found the handler had adhered to national guidelines and there were no misconduct or training issues. No compensation has been paid out yet but the force has admitted liability. Tom was bitten on the leg in June last year as officers responded to reports of thieves stealing copper wiring in Western Road, near Langley Green railway station. A dog handler and his German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois cross were searching for four suspects when they entered the private garden in New Henry Street. The police investigation - which was overseen by the Independent Police Complaints Commission - concluded the 10-year-old, from Rowley Regis, had suffered a single bite wound. It said it was a tragic incident. A police spokesman said: No settlement has been agreed at this stage due to the possibility of the boy requiring future medical treatment. The amount of compensation will be dictated by the level of treatment he may need.
