Nobody is perfect, but don’t settle for laziness and ignorance. Strive to be the best person you can be. It’s always good to strive towards greatness. Often, that involves working to be like the most admirable people around, whether it’s the smartest person, strongest person, or otherwise most awesome person we know. For some of us, the goal of being that great seems too far away to reach. We might feel discouraged by it and choose not to try anymore. Then we might tell ourselves that we are lazy and ignorant and there’s nothing we could do about that. That kind of feeling might free us from the pressure and stress related to striving to be the best person possible. But that benefit is greatly outweighed by the costs of being lazy and ignorant by choice. If we are lazy, we won’t get much work done. Things in our lives won’t be in order, we might not get a good education, and we ultimately will struggle in working for money. If we choose to be ignorant, we deliberately refuse to understand many things in the world. There are so many obvious examples of this that I won’t even bother to list a few. If we work hard to be the best we can be, we can definitely avoid being lazy and ignorant and instead become smart hard-workers. We might not reach the level of greatness of our role models, but that’s OK. The goal isn’t to reach that level, but to get as close to it as possible so that the level we can achieve is still far better than the laziness and ignorance from choosing to do nothing. Basically, strive to be the best you can be. Whether or not you reach the highest level of greatness doesn’t matter. What matters is that you can move far away from the curse of laziness and ignorance and launch yourself into the blessing of being wise and responsible, where happiness truly lies. :-) The Philosopher
