North en-route to self-sufficiency It is right time for us in the #North to face reality and stand up to face the challenges of standiing on our own by looking inward and start using our enermous available mineral and human potentials. We dont have to wait till it is late, the leadership structure in the North can start by piloting a Green Revolution programme of investing in farming, mechanized farming, the landmass is there. Our untapped minerals resources can also be a source of giving employment to our youths, we should revive the Ministry of Solid Minerals at states level, to stipulate and regulate. The local craft (the craft of weaving, tannery, blacksmithing, pottery,) industy that has been supressed and put to standstill can be resussiticated by opening a crash programmes at vocational and other training centres. The upgrading of water level by vigorously embarking of abundant drilling of solar operated boreholes and subsequent tree planting campaign should be a priority as this will provide a source of water for our irrigating farmers. Our intentionally crippled textile industries in Kano and Kaduna should be revisited, cost notwithstanding, the fishing industry should be made to be motivating, our educational curriculum should be set to as education for development, not education for service as it is now. The work is tedious and many, but it has to be started. May Allah give the Leadership an ears to listen and eyes to see and understanding to plan ahead. As the saying goes: If you are planning for a year, plant corn, if you are planning for a decade, educate people, if you are planning for century, educate people. Has the message been delivered ?
