“Notice is given that on July 7, 2014, the Kenya Defence Forces deployed in support of the National Police Service in response to the security emergency situation in Lamu County”, reads a legal notice published in the Kenya Gazette on Tuesday signed by Defence Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo. The Constitution authorise KDF to support police operations internally. The military was also deployed sometimes back to flush out the Sabaot Land Defence Force in Mt Elgon in western Kenya. A joint security operation to track down the attackers comprises units from the Kenya Defence Forces and NPS Units; General Service Unit and Rapid Deployment Unit. Joint security agencies have found and destroyed four large camps, in the expansive Boni forest which extends from Kenya - Somalia border, used by the heavily armed attackers who have been terrorising villagers in Lamu, killing over 80 people and injuring others in the past one month. Major strikes carried, and security agencies are assuring Lamu residents that no attacker will get out of Boni forest.
