November 18, 2013 Monday of the Thirty-third Week in Ordinary Time 1 Mc 1:10-15, 41-43, 54-57, 62-63, Ps 119, Lk 18:35-43 (usccb.org/bible/readings/111813.cfm) Today we hear another story of persistent faith paying off. Jesus heals the blind, but only after he asked 3 times. And others were all the while telling him to be quiet and not to bother the Lord. But his persistent faith pays off and Jesus heals him. Now note the response to the healing… As a result the blind man began to follow Jesus and give glory to God. I believe Jesus heals us all the time. Perhaps not as dramatically as this blind man, but healed none-the-less. Every time we accept forgiveness we are healed. So how do we respond? Do we begin to follow Jesus? Do we give glory to God? Or do we crawl back to the same place where it was so easy to sin? This blind man had a faith that saved him. That was a faith that moved him into action. That action was following Jesus closely. Do you have that kind of faith? Do you want to have that kind of faith? It is there for the taking. Jesus offers Himself freely; all you have to do is accept. Accept and follow. Dear Jesus, please give me the courage to call out to you in my time of need. Please give me the wisdom not to listen when doubters try to weaken my resolve to be with you. Heal me of my spiritual blindness. And help me follow you more closely, always giving glory to you. Amen.
