Now and then my life is slapstick from an old sitcom. I dont like fictional slapstick much, so you can imagine how little fun I find it in real life. Like the night over a year ago when I had a Dick Van Dyke Show accident, tripping over a misplaced ottoman in a dark room and grabbing at an ironing board to block my fall which of course just came down with me. It was at least six months before the shoulder issues that resulted started to fade. Last night I didnt hurt myself, but sheesh. My bed collapsed in the middle of the night -- where the sideboards attach to the headboard the hardware had started to bend and pull away, I had noticed this a little bit previously but I ignored it. One move in my sleep last night and the headboard detached. I had to get up, pick up the mattress and box spring -- EXCEPT were in the middle of apartment renovations so Im actually living in half a bedroom, with a wall of plastic with a zippered door in the middle of the room to protect my sleeping half from the dust. The upended mattress of course fell onto that wall, ripping it a little and detaching the tape from the ceiling. It was 4 am and I was still mostly asleep. I did get the bed put back together enough to go back to sleep, but it looked bad this morning. Im not really sure what Im going to do next, or even when Ill have time to. I may just pack up and go to a hotel for a while. Or join the foreign legion.
